Harlan Leroy Bratlien, 77 of Guthrie, MN died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at the Alida Cemetery in Alida, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.
Harlan was born October 28, 1936, the 10th child of Eric and Ida (Nicoline) Bratlien. He grew up in Alida, attending elementary school in Alida and high school in Bagley. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed for two years in Tacoma, Washington. After leaving the Army, Harlan worked road construction in the summer and logged in the winter. Harlan met his wife, Janet Marie Aho in Babbitt, MN the spring of 1964 and they were married June 13, 1964. In the fall of 1964, Harlan and Janet bought land in the Guthrie area. There, they raised their six children. Harlan loved his family, being outside, keeping busy, and playing with his grandchildren. His Christian faith was the most important thing in his life. He and his family have attended the Menahga Apostolic Lutheran Church for almost 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Janet Bratlien; children Ervin (Carmita) Bratlien, Christine (Steve) Blomberg, Leah Bratlien, Diana (Scott) Severnak, Carl Bratlien and Andrew (Tiara) Bratlien; grandchildren Grace, Lauren, Benjamin, Olivia, Abraham, Michael, Levi, Barbarah, Elias, Elsa and one little angel on the way; brother Donald (Donna) Bratlien; and sisters Annabelle (Ted) Cabana, Elaine Erickson, Helen (Pat) Schussman and Arlene (William) Bush.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings- Marvin, Ervin, Richard "Dick", Roger "Butch" and Marion.
