Halverson earns volunteer award
The Bemidji Pioneer, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson and the United Way recognize Someone Special Volunteers who have made significant contributions to the community.
The United Way of Bemidji Area is recognizing Jeff Halverson as a Someone Special volunteer for his character, loyalty and longtime commitment to the United Way of Bemidji Area's Communications Committee. He has served on the committee for 17 years.
Halverson stepped up on the committee right away, taking a leadership role as chair of the United Way's annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser. As chair, he had the responsibility of overseeing the entire event, including working with the Paul Bunyan Mall's staff to map out the event; judge recruitment and overseeing the judging process; handle cook registration and guidelines and delegate to other committee members their specific roles in promoting the event, setting up and clean up.
"Thanks to Jeff's organized, detail-oriented, team-player personality, the Chili Cook-off has become a thriving fundraiser for United Way, drawing close to 500 attendees each year," said Ashli Bowen, executive director of United Way. "He has tremendous dedication to a project, great problem-solving capabilities and an extremely composed demeanor working under pressure. We sincerely appreciate Jeff's proactive approach and willingness to go above and beyond to make sure all of United Way's campaign events were entertaining and successful. The contributions of time and talent he gave to United Way and our community is truly special!"
