Gustave W. Zaeske, 80, Audubon, died Monday, May 5, 2008, in St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes.
Gust was born on Feb. 6, 1928, to Fred and Emma (Neinas) Zaeske in Leonard, N.D. He attended country school in rural Leonard, N.D., and helped on the family farm. Gust was united in marriage to Margene Schroeder on June 14, 1952, in Casselton, N.D. They made their home in rural Leonard, where Gust continued to work on the family farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, and received an honorable discharge in 1956. He returned to Leonard for a short time, before they moved to rural Audubon. Gust continued to farm in the Audubon area, and in the 1970s, began trucking for various companies throughout the area.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening with his wife, Margene. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Gust is survived by his son, Lorry Zaeske, Detroit Lakes; his daughter, Sherri Zaeske (Ed Schweigart), Detroit Lakes; two grandchildren; honorary grandchild, Megan Parker of Detroit Lakes, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gust was preceded in death by his parents, wife (2000), and two brothers, Alden and Myron.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Audubon.
Visitation is Friday, May 9, from 5-7 p.m. in West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.
Interment is in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
