Groups ask MN Supreme Court to block wolf season
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Two groups have asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to block the state's wolf hunting and trapping season.
The Center for Biological Diversity and Howling for Wolves filed an emergency motion with the state's highest court Monday after the Minnesota Court of Appeals turned them down Wednesday.
The Court of Appeals ruled they failed to show irreparable harm would result from letting the state's inaugural wolf hunting season open Nov. 3.
Collete Adkins Giese, an attorney for the center, says they're hoping the Supreme Court disagrees and rules before the season begins.
The Department of Natural Resources disputes the groups' claims that its process for taking comments on its wolf season regulations fell short of what state law requires. The DNR plans to let hunters and trappers take 400 wolves.
