The Bemidji City Council, Bemidji Town Board and Northern Town Board will convene for a joint meeting at 6 p.m. at Northern Town Hall.

The joint meeting is required by the joint planning ordinance.

But the focus of tonight's meeting will be centered on impending plans for annexations. The Bemidji City Council in August voted to move forward with annexation in April 2010.

The orderly annexation agreement between the city and Bemidji and Northern townships dictates that there are three rings of property that will be annexable in the near future. Rings of property become eligible for annexation in 2010, 2015 and 2020.

The meeting tonight is slated to last about two hours following a half-hour social time from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Cliff Tweedale, executive director of the Headwaters Regional Development Commission, will facilitate the meeting.

The agenda calls for a discussion of annexation issues, including services provided, parks, annexation timing and sharing of information.

Rental issues also are slated to be discussed.

The joint meeting also will ask officials to look to the future in terms of ongoing information sharing, reoccurring meetings, the possibility of a Comprehensive Plan and any needed amendments to joint planning agreements.
