Grand Forks police investigate shooting death of 24-year-old man
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - A 24-year-old former Park River, N.D., resident died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds early this morning at a Grand Forks apartment complex, and police are asking for the public’s help in finding two people of interest.
The police have identified Jose Luis Alphonso Lopez as the victim. Officers were dispatched to 2021 S. 17th St., Apt. 201, at 1:46 a.m. for a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. When police arrived, officers found Lopez who graduated from Park River High School in 2009. His Facebook page shows that he was living in Grand Forks at the time and was working at Motor Coach Industries.
“The victim was transported to Altru Hospital, where he later died of these injuries,” a news release from the Grand Forks Police Department said.
Officers are requesting the public’s help in locating men seen leaving the area on foot. Police provided a vague description of the suspects but few identifying details.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone who may have heard or seen anything is asked to call police at (701) 787-8000.
Officers began knocking on doors in the complex after the shooting and they could be seen going through trash at the complex this morning. Police haven't said whether the general public is in danger, and no other details were immediately known.
