Grand Forks, N.D., police seek suspect in assault of, bike theft from 12-year-old girl

Grand Forks police are searching for a man suspected of assaulting and robbing a 12-year-old girl.

The incident was reported at about 1 p.m. Saturday at Third Avenue South and Belmont Road, where the girl said a man assaulted her and then took her bicycle. A man driving by witnessed the incident and chased the suspect in his vehicle for about three blocks, according to the police report.

The suspect got off the bicycle and fled on foot northeast of the area. He's is described as 17 to 25 years old, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, athletic build with black hair, mustache and a goatee. He was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

The girl was treated and released from Altru Hospital.
