Former Frazee resident Grace F. Collins, 94, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in the Frazee Care Center.
Grace F. Brugman was born to John and Jean (Tate) Brugman on Dec. 21, 1914 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved with her family to Alberta, Minn., and later to Morris, Minn., where she graduated from Morris High School in 1935.
In 1940, Grace married William Collins, Sr., in Menahga. They lived in several communities in Minnesota prior to moving to Frazee in 1950. Grace managed the Frazee Hotel and purchased the Frazee Bakery, which was destroyed by fire. She and William rebuilt the bakery and operated it until selling the business to their son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Collins.
Grace continued to work at the bakery until retiring in 1973. She and Bill divorced in 1969. From 1973 to 1976, Grace worked for St. Mary's Catholic Rectory in Fargo. In 1976, she moved to Park Rapids, but later returned to Frazee, before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1982. She entered the Frazee Care Center in January 2009.
Surviving Grace are her daughter, Jeanette Collins of Billings, Mont.; three sons, Bill (Karen) Collins of Boise, Idaho, Marvin Collins of Owatonna, Minn., and Gary (Carol) Collins of Detroit Lakes; sister, Fern Brown of Morris, Minn.; and brother, Lyal Brugman of Great Falls, Mont.; as well as numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Donald and Douglas; her parents; a sister and two brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 20 in the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with Michael Ziemer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the start of services.
