The 12th Annual Governor's Deer Hunting Opener will start on Nov. 6 in Bemidji, when Dayton will host community activities to bring attention to a pursuit that has nearly 500,000 Minnesota participants and contributes nearly $500 million to the state's economy, according to a release from the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

Minnesota's general firearm deer season opens Nov. 8.

This year's event, a “Welcome to Camp” banquet will be Nov. 6 at the Sanford Center. A social hour begins at 4:30 p.m. and a dinner and program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 and are available by contacting MDHA at (800) 450.3337, ext. 12, locally at the Sanford Center box office or online at www.mngovernorsdeeropener.com.

Dinner speakers have traditionally included the governor, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr, Explore Minnesota Tourism Director John Edman and Mark Johnson, executive director of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

Attendees will also be able to view the DNR's "Wall of Shame" poaching exhibit and antlers from the world record-size eight-point buck poached in Goodhue County, booths by other outdoor vendors and organizations along with many other activities, officials said in a press release.
