Gov. Dayton catches northern pike at Grand Rapids Fishing Opener
This morning Gov. Mark Dayton caught and released a northern pike at his first Governor's Fishing Opener held in Grand Rapids.
The Governor officially kicked-off the fishing season by casting a line at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, spending more than two hours out on the lake. His catch came at approximately 9 a.m., shortly after a send-off ceremony at Pokegama Lake.
His fishing host, Grand Rapids native Scott Glorvigen, and Army National Guard Specialist Shelby Lego accompanied the Governor this morning. Lego also hooked a northern as well as a small-mouth bass.
Lego served in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2009 to June 2010 and is a graduate of Remer-Northwestern High School and a current student at Itasca Community College.
