Gordon Charles Day
Gordon Day, 74, of Tenstrike, MN, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Sanford Fargo Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the St. Johns Catholic Church in Nebish, MN with Father Raul Perez-Cobo officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8:00pm, with a rosary at 7:30pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born on January 11, 1939, in Saint Paul, MN, the son of John and Olive (Londroche) Day. He was raised and educated in St. Paul, attending the Mechanics Art School and the St. Paul Vocational School. He married Patricia Merrill on September 17th, 1960 at the St. Paul Cathedral in St. Paul, MN. He started his career as an Apprentice Machinist in 1959 at Northern Ordinance. In 1961 he began work at Dayton Rodgers as a Machinist and worked there until 1964. He worked as a Project Engineer for Par Systems from 1964 until 1977, working in Nuclear Robotics for several East Coast Nuclear Plants. In 1977 he moved with his family to Bemidji, MN. He and his wife owned and operated Northern Kennels from 1977 until 1995. He also founded Northern Precision Machine in 1979 and continued to work there the rest of his life. He was a member of the St. Paul Clown Club, the Headwaters Retriever Club, served on the Hagali Town Board, and was a member of the Highway 2 Manufacturers Association. Gordon was an entrepreneur and patriarch to his family. He was dedicated to making sure his family was always well taken care of and to working hard to make his business a success. When he wasnt working hard at the family business he enjoyed spending time living at his lake home in the northland amongst the pines with his wife Pat. Gordon was always proud of his family heritage and his past. He very much enjoyed sharing his life adventures to all who would listen; recounting every minute so as not to miss a single detail. He was a man who believed that you should work hard to make your own way in this world, but those working hard who needed help should get it. His stories, lively personality, and steadfast loyalty will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by:his wife,Patricia Day of Tenstrike, MN, Daughters,Pamela (Robert) Torkelson of Crookston, MN,Paula Mellema of Bemidji, MN,Jill (Cris) Bitker of Bemidji, MN, Sisters,Janet (Frank) Skipon of Little Canada, MN,Marilyn Richard of Indialantic, FL,Brother,James (Barb) Day of Decora, Iowa,6 Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Lentsch, brothers Ronald Day, and Duane Day.
Casketbearers will be Jessie Danielson, Brian Torkelson, Jim Masloski, James Masloski, Ty Fournier, and Scott Mandrell.
