Tubby Smith, the University of Minnesota men's basketball coach, will give a speech open to the public today at Cass Lake-Bena High School.
The speech is open to adults 18 years old and over. Children are not allowed to attend due to NCAA recruiting rules.
The topic of the speech is "Leading the Team On and Off the Court."
Registration is open from 4 p.m.-4:20 p.m. and the speech runs from 4:30 p.m.-5 p.m. with a reception to follow.
Smith is a nationally renowned basketball coach who has coached the Gophers for the last two seasons.
Last season, he led Minnesota to the NCAA Tournament.
In his first season, Smith took a team that had won nine games the season before to a 20-14 record.
Smith came to Minnesota with a reputation for winning at the highest level in college basketball.
In his 18-year career, Smith has coached a national championship team (Kentucky in 1997-98), made four Elite Eight appearances, nine Sweet Sixteen appearances and has posted 16 straight 20-win seasons.
On five different occasions, Smith has been named a conference coach of the year.
He has also collected national coach of the year honors on three different occasions.
Smith has also prepared collegiate players for the NBA.
Among the list of the 17 NBA players who have been coach by Smith are Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, Michael Ruffin of the Milwaukee Bucks, Chuck Heyes of the Houston Rockets and former 10-year veteran Shandon Anderson.
