The American Action Network began a $570,000 campaign against Nolan on Monday. That includes $430,000 for an ad about Medicare in the Twin Cities and $80,000 for an ad about the proposed PolyMet mine in the Duluth TV market.

Nolan is challenging Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack in northeastern Minnesota.

The Medicare ad tags Nolan as "radical," harkening back to his time in Congress in the 1970s. The PolyMet ad claims he would stand in the way of new jobs.

So far, outside groups have spent more than $1.2 million on the race, which will help determine which party controls the House.
