GOLF: Bemidji girls shoot best round of the season at Fergus Falls meet, boys improve
FERGUS FALLS -- Morgan Miller carded a 79 and Morgan Williams and Kelsey Isaacson each shot 80 to lead the Bemidji girls golf team at Saturday's second round of the Fergus Falls Invitational held at Pebble Lake.
The Lumberjacks also were able to count Megan Dondelinger's 88 and the collective team score of 327 is Bemidji's lowest round in a number of years.
"The kids played awesome golf," said BHS coach Jeff Nelson. "This is the best we have shot in a long time. For the first time all spring we were able to play on a sunny and nice day and we took advantage of those conditions."
Alexandria won the 36-hole meet with 637 but Bemidji was second with 345-327-672.
On Tuesday the Jacks will resume their schedule at Detroit Lakes.

BHS boys improve
PARK RAPIDS — The BHS boys team shot a 336 on day two of the Detroit Lakes Invitational Saturday, bouncing back from Friday's somewhat poor result.
"We did a little better today," BHS head coach Seth Knudson said. "I think we're slowly improving. We hope to be better by the time sections roll around."
The Lumberjacks will compete in the Section 8-3A tournament Tuesday, May 27, in Sauk Centre.
The two-day Detroit Lakes tournament was held at Longbow in Walker Friday before moving to Headwaters in Park Rapids Saturday.
The Lumberjacks shot a 348 on Friday and were ninth out of 11 teams going into Saturday's round.
The 336 score was a big improvement on that.
The rest of the team scores were not available at presstime.
Matt Gregg led Bemidji on day two with a score of 73 on the par-72 course. He finished with a combined score of 156.
"That was a nice round of golf he played today," Knudson said of Gregg. "I think he should have moved up on the leaderboard after today's round."
Sam Brustle shot an 85 and had a two-day score of 172. Leo Spry had a 93 for a combined score of 180; Brandon Reynolds shot 95 for a score of 195 and Matt Allen an 89 for a score of 180. Ben Christopher didn't golf on Friday but shot an 89 Saturday.
The Lumberjacks return to the course Tuesday at the Detroit Lakes Country Club's Pine to Palm Course.
