Girls tennis: Bemidji dominates Thief River Falls
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- The Bemidji girls tennis team continued its success this season with a 6-1 victory over Thief River Falls Wednesday.
The Prowlers got their lone victory in the fourth match of singles as Callie Fagerstorm defeated Sarah McNallan in three sets.
"Sarah took our lone loss at fourth singles, but she played hard all day," Bemidji head coach Mark Fodness said. "This is a match she can really learn from and we know she will be even better next time."
Claudia Bellew, Alexis Konecne and Abbie Kelm were all victorious in two sets in the first three singles matches.
Annika Johnson and Olivia Dickinson got Bemidji off to a good start in doubles, as they won 6-4 and 6-0 in two sets.
Kenzie Schultz and Jenna Lee followed with a sweep of their own with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
Kayla Snell and Nicolette Roy fell 4-6 in the first set to Allison Okeson and Franny Marshall, but bounced back to win the next two sets and complete the 3-0 sweep in doubles for the Lumberjacks.
"Kayla and Nicolette had a nice comeback win," Fodness said. "They played their best tennis of the year in the final four games. They were down 2-3 in the third set and won the next four games and played extremely well."
Bemidji (8-1-2) returns to the courts at 9 a.m. Saturday in Hibbing to face Hibbing/Chisholm for the only time this season.
"This is the type of win we can really build from as we near the final run to Sections," Fodness said. "It was great to see the girls coming off the courts and immediately finding their teammates who were still competing and cheering them on."
