BHS, the defending Section 8A champion, earned the second seed in the North Sub-Section, trailing only East Grand Forks, while Crookston was rated seventh in the seven-team field.

As a reward for being the top seed, the Green Wave was given a bye in the section’s opening round. In addition to today’s game at Bemidji, No. 3 ranked Detroit Lakes will entertain No. 6 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and No. 4 Fergus Falls will host No. 5 Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.

Today’s winners will advance to the sub-section semifinals. If Bemidji (10-6) overcomes Crookston it will host the Detroit Lakes-WHA winner on Saturday. The time will be determined following today’s game.

Also scheduled for Bemidji on Saturday is the sub-section semifinals of the boys Section 8A tournament. BHS is the top seed in that tourney and earned a quarterfinal bye. The Lumberjacks (11-2-2) own the home-field advantage Saturday and will take on the winner of Thursday’s game between Fergus Falls and East Grand Forks.

Bemidji High School’s other events today see the volleyball team traveling to Wadena-Deer Creek and the swimmers heading to Moorhead.

Both teams posted impressive victories Tuesday. The volleyball squad thumped Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20 while the swimmers belted Detroit Lakes 151-146 in a meet that appeared to be close only because the Jacks elected to swim strictly exhibition during the final four events.
