Girls hockey: Chaska stops Bemidji 3-1
CHASKA -- The trip to the Twin Cities suburbs did not prove to be fruitful for the Bemidji girls hockey team as the Lumberjacks dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday at Chaska.
On Friday the road trip began with a 3-0 loss to North Wright County in Monticello.
"We had 10 penalties for 20 minutes Saturday and when you have small numbers on the roster, being shorthanded that much can gas out the penalty killers," said BHS assistant coach Kailee Jaeger. "We gave up one power play goal and Chaska scored the other two goals right after we had killed off a penalty.
"That (playing shorthanded) was the routine of the weekend," Jaeger added.
The first period ended in a 0-0 deadlock but the Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the second stanza. Mollie Wise tallied in the first minutes of the period and a minute later the home team upped its cushion to 2-0 with Victoria Holman's goal.
Midway through the third period Chaska settled the issue with a power play tally.
Bemidji scored its goal with 6:10 to play when Megan Dondelinger converted feeds from Janessa Johnson and Jordyn Follis.
Leighton Rockensock made 29 saves in the Bemidji net while the Jacks offense managed only 10 shots.
