FERGUS FALLS – The Bemidji High School girls hockey team hadn’t played a game in nearly two weeks.

That rust didn’t exactly hurt the Lumberjacks against Fergus Falls, but the Otters rallied for a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon.

“We didn’t exactly come out flat,” BHS head coach Bob Brink said, noting that his team has been off for nearly two weeks. “We just couldn’t seem to get the puck in the net as much as we should have.”

The Lumberjacks (4-5-5) outshot the Otters (6-8-2) by a 38-26 margin and had more clear-cut chances but couldn’t pull away despite taking a 2-0 lead midway through the second period.

Bemidji’s Karleigh Wolkerstorfer put the Jacks up 1-0 at the 4:52 mark of the first period. Kelsey Isaacson added an assist on the goal.

BHS took a 2-0 lead at the 6:06 mark of the second on Allie Heifort’s goal.

Wolkerstorfer and Heather Olson added assists.

However, the Otters fought back.

Fergus Falls’ Megan Niblock cut the score in half at the 13:13 mark of the second to make it 2-1 going into the second intermission.

And in the third period, the Otters tied it with Hannah Baker’s unassisted goal at 11:56.

The team skated to a scoreless overtime and the game ended 2-2.

“We pretty much dominated from the get-go,” Brink said. “We just couldn’t get the win.

“The girls aren’t feeling to great about the tie, and they shouldn’t be because they should have won. But considering we hadn’t played in almost two weeks we played pretty well.”

The Lumberjacks have a quick turnaround before their next game.

Bemidji travels to Moorhead Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff against its regional rivals.
