GIRLS HOCKEY: Bemidji blanks Crookston 4-0
CROOKSTON — After gaining some momentum following a 2-2 tie against Class A No. 3 East Grand Forks Tuesday, the Bemidji High School girls hockey team carried that momentum to another win Thursday.
The Lumberjacks improved to 7-10-3 with a 4-0 shutout win over Crookston and are now riding a four-game unbeaten streak that began with a 3-0 win over Brainerd-Little Falls last week.
“I think we had some confidence going from Tuesday’s game,” BHS head coach Jackie Robertson said.
On Thursday the Lumberjacks took a period to get going but finally got on the board with two quick second period scores.
Madison Schultz scored the first of her two goals exactly one minute into the middle frame, followed by Mackenzie Hietala at the 3:15 mark.
In the third period, the Jacks added to their tally with two more early goals.
Rachel Holm scored at 3:17 and Schultz scored her second on the power play at the 5:11 mark.
“We started off slowly but once we got rolling we started playing very well,” Robertson said.
Leighton Rockensock made 18 saves to earn the shutout for BHS while Lexie Cormican stoped 20 of 24 BHS shots for Crookston (6-15-1).
BHS returns to the ice Saturday against Alexandria.
