DETROIT LAKES -- Detroit Lakes had the hot hand Saturday as the Lakers seldom missed a shot and the result was an 86-46 victory over the Bemidji girls basketball team in Detroit Lakes.

"Before they put in the reserves in the second half I would guess that Detroit Lakes hit at least 65 percent of its shots," BHS coach Rick Kehoe said.

In addition to nailing the majority of its shots from the outside the home team also enjoyed a height advantage in the paint and that one-two punch was more than the Lumberjacks could counter.

"Detroit Lakes is big inside so we tried to pack it in at the start," Kehoe said. "But they never missed from outside so we had to extend and that left the inside open.

"There really isn't a 40-point difference between Detroit Lakes and us but tonight we shot poorly and everything they shot went in."

The Jacks trailed from the outset, were behind 54-28 at intermission and never made a charge.

Casey Palmer paced the offense with 12 points and Cheyenne Woods added 11. Amber Smith contributed seven.

Saturday's setback dropped BHS to 3-8 and the Lumberjacks will try to resume their winning ways Tuesday at Crookston.
