GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bemidji snaps 15-game losing streak vs win over St. Cloud Apollo

ST. CLOUD — Rick Kehoe called it an “ugly” win.

But for a Bemidji High School girls basketball team that hasn’t won since the calendar turned to 2014, it’s one the Lumberjacks will gladly take.

BHS topped St. Cloud Apollo 46-38 Tuesday night, spanning a 15-game losing streak that dated back to Dec. 19.

“It wasn’t pretty but a win’s a win,” Kehoe said. “It was kind of ugly but sometimes you just have to gut them out when things aren’t working right.”

The Lumberjacks, now 4-18, could have had an easier time against the winless Eagles (now 0-19), but Kehoe said BHS had too many turnovers and didn’t care of the ball.

“We just weren’t efficient offensively as I would have liked,” he said. “And we had some silly turnovers.”

As a result, the Lumberjacks led just 27-23 at halftime and never got too far ahead of the Eagles.

The final scoring margin was just eight points.

Casey Palmer led the Lumberjacks with 14 points while Cheyenne Woods scored 12.

Cassie Dickey led Apollo with 16.

Bemidji’s last victory was Dec. 19 against International Falls; the Lumberjacks will look to add to their win total Friday against Buffalo.

The game will be the final home contest for BHS and it will also be senior night.
