ALEXANDRIA – The Bemidji girls basketball team rallied from a 25-16 halftime deficit to edge Alexandria 46-44 Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (6-14) had double-digit scoring performances from Jessa Lusby (12 points) and Jess Yost (11 points), including three second-half 3-pointers from Lusby, to help take the lead late.

“That was fun,” Bemidji head coach Rick Kehoe said. “We were down 14 or 16 at one point in the second half and we came back.

“It wasn’t one thing we did. We just slowly gutted it out. There wasn’t a huge run or anything, just the girls chipping away at the lead.”

The Cardinals (12-8) had a chance to win the game late, but a 3-pointer from Amanda Christensen with 8 seconds to go rimmed out. Bemidji’s Yost got the rebound and ended the game.

“We did a great job on the boards tonight, and got all the stops we needed,” Kehoe said. “Everybody played extremely well. It was a good win.”

The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday against rivals Moorhead.
