DULUTH – Despite the stormy conditions Thursday night that wiped more than a few games from the schedule, the Bemidji high school girls basketball team still made the trek to Duluth for their game against Duluth East.

The Lumberjacks hung with the Greyhounds for much of the night but in the end it wasn’t enough, as Duluth East beat the Lumberjacks 61-44.

Bemidji (3-11) trailed just 33-26 at halftime but the Greyhounds (4-7) came out firing in the second half and outscored the Lumberjacks 28-18 in the second half and pulled away for the 15-point victory.

Jess Yost led the Lumberjacks in scoring, sinking nine field goals and going 9-for-8 from the foul line for 24 points. Jessa Lusby was the other Lumberjack in double figures with 11 points.

Hannah Johnson led Duluth East with 22 points, while Mia Anderson had 14 and Mallory Tarnowski 11.

The Lumberjacks are scheduled to return to the court Tuesday, Jan. 15, when they’ll host Crookston at 7:30 p.m.
