Gilman, Tweeton will battle for Senior title
BEMIDJI -- Daniel Gilman of Centennial, Colo. and Jeff Tweeton of Perham will square off at 10:50 a.m. today for the Senior title.
Tweeton, who won the crown in 2003, 2006 and 2007, earned his shot at the prize by stopping John McEnroe of Woodbury 2 and 1 in Friday's semifinals. Earlier in the tournament Tweeton defeated Tom Allen of Bemidji 1-up and Bob Kobilka of Bemidji 3 and 2.
Gilman is seeking his first Birchmont championship. On Friday he ousted Jeff Wiltse of Bemidji 3 and 2. After qualifying at 149 Gilman's run to the title match included a 6 and 4 win over Curt Howard of Sapupla, Okla. and a 5 and 4 victory over Pete Passolt of Orono.
Joe Mayer of Bemidji is on track to defend his crown as he reached today's title match with a 6 and 5 semifinal win over Richard Johnston of Bloomington on Friday.
Earlier in the tournament Mayer eliminated Jim Nelson of Houston, Texas 4 and 2.
Chuck Hiller of Crookston will try to stop Mayer in today's battle. On Friday Hiller thumped Tom Hanson of Detroit Lakes 4 and 3. His other match-play results included a 5 and 4 win over Gerry Douglas of Bemidji and a 2-up triumph over Ed LeBeau of Bemidji.
The Masters finalists will hit the first tee at 11 a.m.
Today's 8:30 a.m. Junior title match will feature a pair of Grand Forks golfers as Gavin Loscheider will square off against Austin Jensen.
In Friday's action Loscheider bumped Charles Eickhof of Crookston 6 and 5 while Jensen blitzed Tyler Dunn of Omaha 5 and 4.
