Gilbertson earns Fenske award
The Fenske Livestock Award goes to the best overall 4-H livestock exhibitor at the Beltrami
County Fair in any livestock project including beef, dairy, goat, horse, poultry, rabbit, sheep, or swine. The award is sponsored by the Fenske family in honor of Edwin Fenske, an active member of the Carr Lake 4-H Club who devoted over 40 years of his life to maintaining a herd of Jersey cows, also establishing a processing plant with his brother, Walter.
The 2014 Fenske Award went to Christopher Gilbertson, a member of the Deer Lake Flyer 4-H Club and the son of John and Shelly Gilbertson.
This year's Beltrami County Fair hosted exhibits from 215 Beltrami 4-H Youth. Members of 4-H and their families staffed the 4-H Food Booth, the 4-H RoboShack, and held 15 shows, showcases, an auction and awards ceremony, in the five days that make up the Beltrami County Fair. One hundred and eight advanced show opportunities have been earned and accepted by Beltrami 4-H youth: six state dog trips, seven state horse trips, 32 general education encampment trips, 31 state livestock trips and 32 Beltrami 4-H Youth will attend the Northeast Livestock Show.
