GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma members attend GFWC state meeting

Seven members from the GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma Club attended the GFWC state meeting in Walker April 4-6. Jackie Barclay, Shirley Deno and Laura Rockis attended the GFWC Board meeting on Friday afternoon.

Kathy Tobin received leadership training as president-elect of GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma. Connie Moen was recognized as a first time attendee. Other members attending were Mary Lea Anderson and Val Hentges.

Art work that placed first at the district meetings were judged at the state meeting on Saturday.

GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma members entering the art display were; Jackie Barclay with a necklace and a quilt, Judy Gorman with a stained glass sun-catcher and Kathy Tobin with a painting and a quilt. Students advancing to the State Art Display were; Tanesha Bird, Conner Frenzel, Michaela Holmgren, Logen Hower, Maile Olson, Elena Pfannenstein, Oxana Pfannenstein, Natasha Sherwood, K'La Sorquist, Michael Tate and Avery Waskul.

Saturday included the "Best of the Best" program awards where GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma received the Community Improvement Award. GFWC President-elect, Babs Condon presented information on the national level of General Federated Women's Clubs and a history of our National Headquarters in Washington D.C.

Lorelei Kraft's speech, "Five Weeks and Five Days -- How to Get Things Done," talked about how twelve women completed the Village of the Smokey Hills craft village in five weeks and five days. Joanne Benson, past Minnesota Lieutenant Governor with Arnie Carlson, spoke about "One Woman's Journey from Minnesota to Moscow." "Living with Alzheimer's" was the topic for Lisa Sanders of the Duluth Alzheimer's office.

Saturday evening was the banquet with a celebration of the history of General Federated Women's Clubs and the installation of the 2012-2014 GFWC Minnesota state officers.

The meeting concluded Sunday morning with a celebration of membership. GFWC Blackduck Tri Sigma received a certificate for 86 years of affiliation with GFWC. Nevis presented a program, "A Beautiful Conservation Insight," a power point presentation of the history of tulips.
