GF man charged with raping 64-year-old woman
Robert James Rhode, 43, is being held at the Grand Forks County jail on a $10,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman said Tuesday.
A police affidavit says the victim had known Rhode for several years. He came to her Grand Forks home intoxicated Nov. 15 and pinned her in a chair, the affidavit says.
"She states that Rhode then led her to her bedroom where he had sexual intercourse with her against her will," the affidavit reads.
The victim reported that she told Rhode to stop and that he overpowered her.
Rhode told police he was at the home while intoxicated, but denied having intercourse with her, the affidavit says. A message left for Rhode at the jail was not immediately returned Tuesday evening.
A laboratory analysis of a sexual assault kit done on the victim detected semen, the affidavit states. Police seized a bed sheet, nightgown and housecoat as evidence, according to an incident report.
The alleged crime occurred between 6 and 7:30 p.m. and was reported to police that night at about 8:45 p.m., the incident report shows.
Rhode made a jail appearance Monday afternoon on a charge of gross sexual imposition and is set for a preliminary hearing May 26.
