Gerald "Jerry" Brooks
Gerald Jerry Brooks, 80, of Bemidji, MN, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Fern Township Cemetery.
Gerald LeRoy Brooks was born April 5, 1933 in Bemidji to Arie and Helen (Schultz) Brooks. He grew up in Bemidji, attended Lab Elementary School and Bemidji High School. He served in the U.S. Army and returned to Bemidji where he began farming for many years. On April 23, 1960 he married Linda Malterud in Bemidji. He farmed with potatoes, chickens, hogs, cattle, corn, grain and hay. He also worked at the potato warehouse, owned his own logging truck and was a logger for many years. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards, following his grandchildren in their sports and other activities and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Brooks of Bemidji; daughter, Arlie Post of Forest Lake, MN; son, Allen (Tammy) Brooks of Twin Valley, MN; 6 grandchildren, Brienna Duax, Wendy Prow, Jeromy Post, Hanna Post, Jacob Brooks and Kaia Brooks; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Gene (Verna) Brooks of Calumet, MN and sister, Emily Lovering of Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Brooks, Roland Brooks and Walter Brooks and sister, Lucy Brooks.
