Georgianna Sandberg, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Georgianna was born the daughter of Arthur and Angeline (Trottochaud) Vizenor on Nov. 12, 1925 in Richwood, where she was raised and educated. After her schooling, she worked as a nurse at the sanitarium in Walker, Minn.
Georgianna married John Sandberg on Dec. 30, 1946 in Detroit Lakes, where they made their home. Together they owned and operated Johnny's Wayside Inn for many years. They also were in the wild rice business for 20 years. Georgianna also worked as a caregiver, and in her later years, worked at Shooting Star Casino, retiring at the age of 72.
Georgianna enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, the casino and cooking. She was known for her cooking, and for always being a caregiver to her family or whoever was in need.
Surviving Georgianna are her daughter, Rita (Russell) Miller of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Michael John Sandberg of Frazee and Patrick Sandberg of Elbow Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Art) Disse of Detroit Lakes and Pearl Kastel of Spokane, Wash.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Georgianna in death were her parents; husband, John (1978); four brothers, Edward, Omer, Arthur and Al; as well as four sisters, Mary Rose McGuire, Gladys Hackett, Myrtle Delaske and Margaret Stearns.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes; there will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
