George F. Edwards, 73, of Bemidji died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident

Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Marks Evangelical Church in Bemidji, MN with Rev. Aaron Nitz officiating. Visitation will be from 4 7 pm Friday and one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Interment will be at the St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Military honors will be accorded by the DAV chapter # 7 and the VFW post # 1260 of Bemidji.

George was born November 27, 1940 in Cass Lake, Minnesota, the son of George, Sr. and Dorothy (Warner) Edwards. He was raised in St. Paul, active in the Boys Scouts and progressed through the Eagle Scouts. He spent his childhood working numerous paper routes, camping, and developing his love of music. He learned to play the accordion and performed with various groups as a young man. George attended the Mechanic Arts high school graduating in 1958, and then continued his education with the chef and baker program at Dunwoody in St. Paul. He worked at Beaudets Bakery in St. Paul from 1958 until 1972, stopping to serve in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He moved to Cass Lake in 1972 and operated his own businesses, Edwards Bakery, The Sweet Shop, Edwards Sporting Goods, and Two Traders Gift Shop until 1983. He married Janette "Ginger" S. Carlson on January 25, 1974 in Cass Lake. They joyfully celebrated 40 years together this year. George later worked as a Cook Coordinator running the food services at Itasca Sate Park from 1984 until 1998, when a disability forced him to retire.

He was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church and previous council member. He served a term as a City of Cass Lake councilman. He enjoyed reloading ammo and was an enthusiast of model railroading and was also a founding member of the Northern Iron Horse Railroad Society in Bemidji. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and NRA. George also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and shooting. He served faithfully as commander of the DAV chapter # 7 of Bemidji since 2010, making one of his lifes goals raising support for veterans who are disabled.

He is survived by his wife Janette "Ginger" of Bemidji, a daughter- Elizabeth Edwards (Matt Kahlstorf) of Bemidji, Mother- Dorothy Edwards of Maplewood, MN, Brothers- Robert (Lynnee') Edwards of Wausau, Wisc., Jerry (Ellen) Edwards of Shoreview, MN, Sister-in-law- Carole Edwards of White Bear Lake, MN, and many neices, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother Billie Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the DAV chapter # 7. A memorial fund has been set up in George's name at Affiniity Plus. Condolences may be left at
