Detroit Lakes native Genevieve "Genny" F. Klinefelter, 58, of Monticello, Minn., peacefully passed away at her home, surrounded by her family. on Friday, September 5, 2008 after a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Genevieve Francis Stenger was born to Joe and Margaret (Carr) Stenger on Sept. 13, 1949 in Detroit Lakes. Genny graduated with honors from Frazee High School in 1967.
After graduation, she moved to the Twin Cities, where she graduated from Lowthian College for Fashion Merchandising. She took a job at Salkin and Linoff was a fashion buyer, and continued there for 15-plus years. She then moved to a second career in real estate, and helped many happy clients find their perfect home. She was in the top 4 percent of real estate agents in the U.S., and had multiple accreditations.
Genny married Dean Klinefelter on Feb. 23, 1972 in Minneapolis. In their 36 years together, they were blessed with two daughters, Julie and Laura.
Genny will be best remembered for her wonderful loving heart. She had a fun-loving and generous spirit, and her unconditional love was felt by everyone who met her. Her charismatic smile was contagious. She loved spending timing with her family and friends, going for walks, jet skiing and taking many pictures. Her passion for travel and adventure took her all over the U.S., and often included her family and friends.
Genny was very devoted to her faith and at the time of her passing, was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Frazee.
Genny will be greatly missed by her husband, Dean Klinefelter of Monticello; daughters, Julie (Joe) Muraski of St. Michael, Minn, and Laura of Monticello; a grandson; sisters, Diana Vareberg of Detroit Lakes, Mary Wosika, also of Detroit Lakes, Beverly (Roy) Samuelson of Hawley, and Therese (Dale) Stroschein of Frazee; brothers Joe (Kathy) Stenger, Donnie (Vonnie) Stenger, Tim (Sue) Stenger and Tony (Nancy) Stenger, all of Detroit Lakes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Margaret Stenger.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, with interment following at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Frazee.
