Gary G. Dagen
Gary G. Dagen, 65, of Bemidji, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Preston Dagen, Reece Setterholm, Garrett Setterholm, Brandon Setterholm, Dana Husby and Doug Hanson, and all his friends.
He was born Dec. 26, 1943, to Luverne and Frances (Thrane) Dagen in Hallock, Minn. He was raised in Springbrook Township near Karlstad, Minn. He attended Karlstad School and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1961. He served for a time in the National Guard. He farmed the family farm, Dagen Farms Inc., with his father and brother Troy. He married Janice Gulsvig Wackerfuss in December 1978 at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad.
In 1987, he joined Lutheran Brotherhood in Thief River Falls, Minn., as a financial adviser.
In 1991, he transferred to Bemidji with Lutheran Brotherhood and received many sales awards during his career, including TOPS and the President's Club. In 2006, he retired from his independent insurance agency in Bemidji.
He played in a band called Porter and the Wagners for many years with his friends. He enjoyed spending time in recent years at his cabin on Lake of the Woods near Morson, Ontario.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, music, singing, dancing and spending time with family and friends. He was a past president of the Karlstad Eagles Club and was a member of the Eagle's Aerie 351 of Bemidji. He had been a member of the Red River Valley Potato Grower's Association, VFW, American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, Calvary Lutheran Church, NAIFA and HAIFA.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kristen (Todd) Eklund of Alexandria, Minn., Janna (David) Schiltz of Bemidji and Jolee (Brian Murawski) Wackerfuss of Bemidji; a granddaughter; sisters, Luanne (Nate) Wilson of Estacada, Ore., Janakaye (Ron) Husby of Park Rapids and Sheree (Glenn) Setterholm of Argyle, Minn.; brother, Troy (Mary) Dagen of Cody, Neb.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
