Kalvig graduated from Blackduck High School in 2005, where she was able to take an introductory class in ceramics. When she had a chance to study ceramics again at the University of Minnesota Morris, she fell in love with the process.

Over the course of both semesters of her senior year at Morris, she was able to put together an impressive collection of pieces that are truly beautiful as well as useful, as her instructor stressed functional art. A porcelain teapot (Grandpa's Teapot) was accepted into the juried student art show at U of MN Morris earlier this year.

In September, the main gallery will feature member artists Carol Schlief, Jeff Asfoor and Shirley Gilmore. You can see art by other area artists on display in gallery two. The gallery is located in the Blackduck Area History and Art Center at Main and Margaret in downtown Blackduck. Hours are Thursday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Watch for information about other events being planned at the center including a display of salt and pepper shakers and the annual plant and produce sale.
