Gaea statue is a vibrant celebration of women

Email

There have been two letters against the Gaea statue, and I think the letter writers have failed to take into consideration the underlying message of Gaea -- the beauty and power and sacredness of women. The statue is not offensive or vulgar in its content or presentation; it does not objectify or demean women. Quite the opposite, Gaea is a vibrant celebration of women as the source of life in this world. What's even more beautiful about this statue is that the imagery is open to interpretation.

Where one person sees a praying woman in a flowing gown, another sees a butterfly, and yet another sees a vagina. I don't think the person who sees a vagina should impose her interpretation or its implications on everybody else; it's not fair to those of us who see praying figures and butterflies.
