Fugitive on lam after escaping during hospital visit nabbed by Red Lake officers

REDBY - Jason Lee King, the fugitive who has been at large since dropping his shackles at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, has again been arrested.

The Red Lake Department of Public Safety arrested the 21-year-old man after officers responded on a complaint of reckless driving in Redby.

According to a Red Lake Police Department news release:

Red Lake officers located the suspect vehicle, which then led police on a high-speed pursuit on Green Lake Road. The vehicle, containing four people, eventually came to rest and two of the occupants fled on foot.

The other two were immediately arrested.

The two that ran were chased by Red Lake officers and apprehended after a short foot chase. They were then identified as King and 22-year-old Andrew Oakgrove.

Police reported that King, on the lam from police since Feb. 21, when he escaped custody while on a medical visit, had altered his appearance.

That day, King had been escorted from the Beltrami County Jail just before 1 p.m., allegedly dropped his shackles and stole a pickup as he fled to Red Lake. He was spotted by a Red Lake officer, who gave chase towards the community of Redby. He eventually crashed on South Railway Road and fled on foot into the woods and was not located.

The Red Lake Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Marshal's service, FBI, ATF and Beltrami County continued to search for King for several months.

King was being held on charges stemming from a robbery at Newby's store in December. The news release also said King is a suspect in two armed robberies in Red Lake before he escaped.

The suspect vehicle in Monday's arrested was allegedly driven by Oakgrove and he was charged with multiple violations. Oakgrove was also a suspect in the armed robberies as well.
