Fredrick "Fred" Hangsleben, 66, of Pinewood, MN, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 after a long battle with cancer at his home surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Fredrick John Hangsleben was born July 14, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND to Walter and Viola (Gosch) Hangsleben Sr. On November 3, 1953 at the age of 6 the family moved to Pinewood. He attended school in Pinewood and Bemidji High School graduating in 1965. Fred lived in Pinewood until he was married and then moved to Solway where he lived until moving to Pinewood. He worked for Dwayne Young as a carpenter in commercial construction. Fred built a new home himself in 2007 in Pinewood and moved to in May 2010. He had a love for gardening, hunting, smoking meat and sharing it and anything outdoors. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
He is survived by his significant other, Linda Cassidy of Pinewood; daughters, Melissa Hangsleben of Phoenix, AZ, Kristine (Jared) Vorderbruggen of Solway and Jamie (Peter) Vander Tuig of Pinewood; sons, Ross Hangsleben of Sioux Falls, SD and Robert Cassidy of Pinewood; 4 grandchildren, Tyler, Alex, Makayla and Alysha; close nephew, David Hangsleben of Solway; sisters, Ruth Simpson of Nebraska, Mary Ann (John) Ohman of East Grand Forks, MN and Judy (Les) King, Dakota Dunes, SD; brothers, Robert Hangsleben of Sierra Vista, AZ and Walter (Joyce) Hangsleben of Solway and sister-in-law, Bobbie Hangsleben of East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chad and brothers, Jack and William.
