Former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Gardebring Ogren dies
MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Sandra Gardebring Ogren has died after a long illness. She was 63.
Her husband, Paul Ogren, told the Star Tribune that she had been ill on and off with an obscure form of cancer for about nine years before she died Tuesday.
Gardebring Ogren was appointed to the court by former Gov. Rudy Perpich in 1991 and retired in 1998. Previous to that she had spent three years as a state appeals court judge.
She also had a distinguished a career in politics, having served as commissioner of human services and chief of the Metropolitan Council and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Most recently, she was vice president for advancement at California Polytechnic State University, a job she had held since 2004 until she retired last month.
