A 35-year-old Cass County man was charged Feb. 11 with serious felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Arthur Austin-Ellis Evans of Hackensack was charged in Cass County District Court in relation to an offense that allegedly occurred Feb. 10.

According to the criminal complaint:

Evans sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl after injecting her with sleeping drugs he stole from his employer, Bemidji Ambulance Service. In a recorded post-Miranda statement to a Cass County investigator Feb. 10, Evans admitted that he drugged and sexually assaulted the girl and that he had, in the past, inappropriately touched many young girls and that he had photos and videos of some of the incidents.

Evans remains in custody in Cass County Jail with bail set at $250,000 without conditions and $200,000 with conditions including that he have no contact with minors; not use or access pornography; and not use or access the Internet without prior approval of Cass County District Court.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 21.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie reported that the investigation is continuing, and additional charges may be filed.
