FOOTBALL: Bemidji seeks third win today at Fergus Falls
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

BEMIDJI — With two impressive victories under its belt the Bemidji High School football team will head to Fergus Falls tonight seeking to up its record to 3-0.

The Lumberjacks began the fall with a 39-7 pasting of Grand Rapids and last week BHS made the most of its home opener as it dismantled Sauk Rapids 45-22.

The Otters enter tonight's battle with a 1-1 record. After being smoked 72-14 at home by Brainerd on opening night Fergus Falls went to Cold Spring last week and thumped Rocori 32-12.

"Fergus has a new coach (Steve Olson) but he has been in the system so the players know him," said Jacks coach Troy Hendricks. "Fergus has implemented a new offense and that helped them post a big win over Rocori. You could see in the film that as the game wore on they got more and more confident."

The Lumberjacks also gained confidence last week during their win over Sauk Rapids but Hendricks and the athletes know that they can play much better.

"Other than six or seven plays I thought we played well," the coach said of last week's contest. "The biggest thing is that we need to block and tackle better and those things will come in time and with experience and technique work. At least that is my hope.

"We have more than one blocking scheme but we have five new starters on the offensive line and it will take time for the players to learn those schemes," Hendricks continued. "I think we are pass protecting very well but we're not there yet with the run blocking. But we'll continue to work and I'm sure we will improve."

The roster should be bolstered by the return of defensive lineman Isaac Klinke and defensive back Robert Treuer. Both missed last week's game because of injuries but Hendricks hopes that both will be available tonight.

The Jacks continue their road swing next week at Sartell. They will return home Sept. 27 when they host Rocori.
