Florencemary Isaacson

Sept. 25, 1924-March 9, 2009

Florencemary Isaacson, 84, of Detroit Lakes, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.

Florencemary was born to Gene and Katherine (Timmerman) Akre on Sept. 25, 1924 in St. Paul. The family lived in St. Paul until 1934, when they moved to Fargo. Florencemary, also known as "FM," (a longstanding nickname) graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1942. She attended Concordia College and St. Luke's School of Nursing, where she received her nursing degree.

Florencemary met and married Arnold Isaacson. They made their home in West Fargo and raised their son, Jay. In the mid '60s they moved to Seattle, Washington, where FM worked for many years at a group health clinic. In February of 2003 Florencemary moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to her family.

FM touched the hearts of everyone she met. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her flair for all things colorful and her zest for life. The family wishes to thank Oak Crossing and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kind and wonderful care.

Surviving Florencemary are her brother, Jack (Lynn) Akre of Detroit Lakes; son, Jay Isaacson of Seattle, Wash.; as well as a niece and nephew. Her parents preceded her in death.

A private family service will be held at a later date. West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Those wanting to share memories and condolences are invited to use the funeral home's online messages of sympathy section at
