Former Ponsford resident Florence E. Sunram, 83, of Frazee, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Florence E. Becker was born to Valentine and Jannette (Nugent) Becker on Sept. 14, 1925 in rural Osage, where she grew up and attended country school at the Becker School in rural Osage. She later attended school in Park Rapids, graduating from Park Rapids High School. She then attended Bemidji State Teachers College, where she received a teaching certificate. She taught school at the Potato Lake School near Park Rapids, and later at the Round Lake School and the Bongo School near Ponsford.
On Sept. 30, 1947 Florence married Leonard Sunram in rural Frazee. They farmed for many years in rural Ponsford. Florence was a resident at Vergas Assisted Living in Vergas for a short while before moving to the Frazee Care Center in May 2008. Florence was a very integral part of the family farm. She also enjoyed sewing, artwork, cooking, and gardening. Florence loved nature and would often use the words "Flora and Fauna." Her family and her faith were very important to her.
Surviving Florence are her two daughters, Karen (Dennis) Kramer of Zimmerman, Minn., and Noreen (Rod) Walsh, of Neenah, Wis.; four sons, Les Sunram of Pelican Rapids, Lorenz Sunram of Ponsford, Glenn Sunram of Osage and Leonard Sunram, Jr. of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren;
one brother, Vernon Becker of Osage; a sister-in-law, Alice Sunram of Ponsford; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Leonard Sunram, Sr.; five brothers; one sister; mother-in-law, Elsa Sunram; and daughter-in-law, Arla Sunram.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, March 16 at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman, with the Rev. W.F. Neumann officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services.
Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ponsford. Casket bearers will be Lavon Stengrim, Krystal Kramer, Brent Kramer, Myron Sunram, Jennifer Walsh, Adam Walsh, Gabriel Sunram and Garrett Sunram.
