Florence Miller, 85, of Mahnomen, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 in her home.
Florence Ann Voit was born the daughter of George and Anna (Rehm) Voit on Sept. 16, 1923 in Wahpeton, N.D. As a young child, she moved with her family to the Mahnomen area. Growing up, Florence attended country school and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1941.
Florence married Ervin Miller on June 10, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, Minn. Following their union the couple farmed on several places northeast of Mahnomen, before purchasing a farm east of Beaulieu. They would spend the next 40 years on that farm where they raised their own family. In addition to tending to the children and helping Ervin with the chores, Florence also worked at the sewing factory from 1970-75. In the late 1980s, they retired from the farm and moved into their home in Mahnomen.
Ervin died on Sept. 25, 2003 and Florence continued to live in town.
Florence was a very generous and giving person and always placed others before herself. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and making quilts. Her family was very important to her and her strong faith was evident in her day-to-day activities. Florence was a member of St. Joseph's/St. Michael's Parish Family and also the Christian Mothers of Beaulieu.
Surviving Florence are her four sons, Robert (Phyllis) Miller of Thief River Falls, George (Delores) Miller of Mahnomen, Richard (Dyanne) Miller of Fertile, Minn., and Daniel (Gayla) Miller of Mentor, Minn.; five daughters, Joyce (Donald) Klinkhammer of Waubun, Linda (Douglas) Hand of Fosston, Nancy (Douglas) Nelson of Ramsey, Minn., Phyllis (Michael) Inwards of Pelican Rapids and Gayle (Robert) Halvorson of White House, Tenn.; 32 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin (Bernice) Voit and Leonard (Luella) Voit, both of Mahnomen; and two sisters, Lillian (Melvin) Haider of Mahnomen and Mary Papka of Billings, Mont.
Preceding Florence in death were her parents; husband Ervin; brothers, Kenneth and Allen Voit; sister, Amy Haider; grandson, Nicholas Miller; granddaughter, Jacqueline Hand; and great granddaughter, Mya Ramirez.
A mass of Christian burial was held Wednesday, Nov. 26 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Beaulieu, Minn.
The Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
