Florence I. Johannsen, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Florence Ahlsten was born to August and Mathilda Ahlsten on Sept. 9, 1918 in Taylor Township, Wheaton, Minn. She attended school at District 60. After graduation, Florence attended Beauty School in Fergus Falls, and continued to work there until meeting Duane Johannsen and marrying him in Wheaton in 1941. They moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and lived there before returning to the family homestead in 1942. Florence and Duane farmed in Wheaton until 1963, then moved to Detroit Lakes. Florence had been a resident at Lincoln Park senior living for the past six years.
Florence's primary joy was spending time with her family and friends, followed by her many varied interests of playing cards, baking and music, and her love of her church.
Surviving Florence are her three sons, Richard and Jerry Johannsen of Detroit Lakes, and Donald (Sharon) Johannsen of Walker, Minn.; two daughters, Bonita (Dennis) Krenz of Wheaton and LaVonne Carpenter of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Duane; four sisters; four brothers; her parents; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., continuing one hour prior to funeral services at the church on Wednesday.
The funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. will Wednesday, March 26 at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes with Rev. Dan Abrahams officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is assisting the family.
