Flood waters cover highway near Laporte, slowing travel

LAPORTE - Travel speeds are reduced east of Laporte due to spring flooding.

Highway 200, between Hubbard County roads 45 and 30, is marked with flashers. Also posted is a temporary speed reduction.

"Melting snow is causing water to collect on the road surface, which then freezes overnight causing unexpected slippery conditions," according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

In addition, updated road conditions can be checked by calling 511 or clicking on www.511mn.org. With warmer temperatures expected, motorists are encouraged to check road conditions in any area of the state where potential flooding conditions exist. For weather and flood warnings, go to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Web site http://www.noaawatch.gov/floods.php or listen to NOAA weather radio or local radio stations.
