Fishing: Gary Newell Memorial walleye tournament is May 17
BEMIDJI — The annual Gary Newell Memorial Walleye Tournament on Lake Bemidji and Lake Irving will be May 17. The winning team will receive $2,600, based on a 75-team tournament, second place will be worth $1,500 and the team that finishes third will earn $1,000.
Entry fee is $170 per two-angler boat.
The tournament begins at 7 a.m. and the weigh-in will start at 3:30 p.m. Inspections of the boats will begin at 6 a.m.
Each boat may weigh five walleyes and only two may be over 20 inches. In order to qualify for the weigh-in a walleye must be at least 14 inches. All Minnesota fishing regulations will be enforced and culling will not be allowed.
At least one member of each team must attend the pre-tournament rules meeting 6 p.m. May 15 at the Eagles Club.
