Fishing: Area streams closed to fishing to protect spawning walleyes
BEMIDJI — Because of the late spring and the late walleye spawning run, DNR officials have implemented fishing closures on five area streams through May 16. Fishing will be allowed beginning on May 17.
The list includes the Blackduck River between County Road 32 and the Red Lake Reservation, the Mississippi River below Ottertail Power Dam to County 12, Shotley Brook between Highway 72 and Upper Red Lake, the Tamarac River from Upper Red Lake to the Beltrami-Koochiching county line and the Turtle River from Three Island Dam to Turtle River Lake.
The closures have been put in place to protect spawning walleyes.
