First Friday Art Walk scheduled

The First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji will be held Friday, Jan. 1, and will include the following participants:

- Mask and Rose Women's Theater Collective and the Northwood's Folk Collective will host its First Friday Coffeehouse at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at the Wild Rose Theater, 501 Bemidji Ave. Performer signup begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $2 per person or $5 for family. - Dunn Bros Coffee presents the work of artist and freelance photographer Joe Rossi for the month of January, at 501 Paul Bunyan Dr. S. For details, call 444-5252 or e-mail dunnbros106@ dunnbros.com.

- Gallery North will be closed Jan. 1, and will continue to host their holiday boutique for the month of January. On Jan. 30, Grace Garland and Marion Reil will offer a "Rock and Roll Iris" watercolor painting class. This method of watercolor painting manipulates water and color by tipping and rolling the paper to create vibrant colors. Students will complete and mat a watercolor that will fit a 16 X 20" frame. - Bemidji Community Art Center will be closed from through Monday, Jan. 18, for the holidays. It will reopen on Jan. 19, for regular business hours. The first show of the 2010 season and First Friday Opening will feature the annual BCAC Members Show on Friday, Feb. 5. Shop 426 will also re-open on Feb. 5, with Valentines Day specials. All proceeds from Shop 426 benefit BCAC programming and the artists of Shop 426. The BCAC is free and open to the public. - Headwaters School of Music and the Arts will host an open house for artist, Austin Kliniske, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at 519 Minnesota Ave. N.W. Kliniske began his journey with art 13 years ago as a very young child. From drawing and clay sculptures to painting, he has learned the art that brings him the most joy. Kliniske's Segmented Wood Turnings have a high glass smooth finish. Many of his pieces look as if they were made of marble. For more information, call 444-5606.

- Headwaters Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will feature the paintings of Natalia Himmerska for the months of January and February. The public will be able to view her work at the First Friday Opening on Friday, Feb. 5, at 522 America Ave. N.W. Himmerska was educated in Russia and in the United States and has recently earned her citizenship and is presently the painting instructor at Bemidji State University. In addition to national and international shows, her work has shown locally at Neilson Place, the Bemidji Community Art Center and at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids. - Beltrami County Historical society in conjunction with Gallery North, will continue their exhibit "A Winter Wonderland" for the month of January. The History Center is located at 130 Minnesota Ave. S.W., in the historic James J. Hill Great Northern Deport. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. - North Country Health Services Art Committee continues their exhibit "Let Nature Nurture" by artist Maureen O'Brien for the month of January, at 1000 Anne St. N.W., Bemidji. Maureen's work will be on display now through the month of February for the pleasure of residents, families, staff and the community at large. - Cabin Coffeehouse and Café will continue their exhibit "Inspiration from the World" for the month of January with photographer and artist, Michael Sunnarborg, at 214 Third St. N.W.
