Firefighters extinguish early Saturday blaze in Helga Township

HELGA TOWNSHIP - A house fire caused an estimated $18,500 in damages to the structure and contents early this morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze, reported at 3:33 a.m. by a homeowner in the 22000 block of Hubbard County Road 9.

A Bemidji Fire Department news release said firefghters "determined that the fire was located in the around the chimney for a woodstove located in the lower level."

The blaze was moving into the home's upper level when it was extinguished.

Twenty firefighters used two fire engines, two water tenders and a ladder truck at the scene, where crews spent about two hours. No injuries were reported.

The news release said the cause of thefire appears to be accidental. The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office and Bemidji Ambulance Service provided assistance at the scene.
