Fire hits garages, vehicles, in Eckles Township
SOLWAY -- A garage fire in Eckles Township on Wednesday afternoon caused an estimated $77,000 in damage, officials said.
The Bemidji and Solway Fire Departments, along with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources firefighters responded to the garage fire at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Eckles Township.
When firefighters arrived at the scene in the 10,000 block of Grange Road NW, a garage was completely engulfed in flames, and a second garage was on fire, as well as several vehicles outside the garages. Several small grass fires also were spotted, officials said. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before additional structures or vehicles were ignited, officials said. A total of 24 firefighters used two fire engines and five water tenders and were on scene approximately two hours. No injuries were reported. The fire, which appears accidental in nature, caused an estimated $77,000 in damage to structures and contents.Also assisting on the scene were the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Bemidji Ambulance Service and Beltrami Electric Cooperative.
