JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- No one was injured when a semi tractor caught on fire on Interstate 94 Monday afternoon, according to the Cleveland Rural Fire Department.

The call came out around 1:45 p.m. and firefighters were on scene for about an hour in the eastbound lane near mile marker 248 - about 10 miles west of Jamestown. At one point there were five men on scene, said Firefighter Russell Trautman.

The truck, which Trautman could not identify, appeared to be totaled. He had no estimate for the value.

"The steering, motor, engine, cab - that was all shot," Trautman said.

The cause is unknown.

The fire was technically 2 miles outside of the Cleveland Rural Fire Department's jurisdiction, he said, but because it was only 2 miles outside the department responded anyway. Initial reports to dispatchers said the fire was 5 miles farther west.

"Since we're already out that far it's better for us to respond," Trautman said. "We try to work together on all this stuff."
